1. Hallstatt

Hallstatt is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Austria. Nestled by a serene lake and surrounded by mighty mountains, Hallstatt is one of the few beautiful Austrian villages that make you feel like you’re in heaven. Its narrow cobblestone streets, charming alleys, and glistening lakeside walkways make it an amorous destination for everyone. If you’re heading to this beautiful Austrian village, you can’t miss the alpine Lake Hallstatt, where you can get a romantic boat ride to see the sunset. Hallstatt was once a mining town, and you can still catch a glimpse of its history when you pop by the Hallstatt salt mine. Don’t forget to visit St. Michael’s Chapel and peek inside the creepy yet fascinating Bone House there. Oh, and if you think we’re exaggerating, wait till you realize it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it’s truly unparalleled!

2. Vorarlberg

If we’re talking beautiful villages in Austria, it’s hard to skip Vorarlberg, a place that looks like it was made to be on a picturesque postcard. The adventure begins with its stunning views, comprised of alpine mountains and snowy peaks that make every wanderlust sigh in relief. There’s also the unmissable greenery, practically dipping the Vorarlberg Mountains, so you’re in for an enjoyable summer hike. Its allure is evident during the season, when you’ll see tourists swarming the place, eager to explore. If you’re someone who needs to exercise wherever you go, you’ll find Vorarlberg even more interesting than other beautiful Austrian villages, all because it’s got plenty of hiking trails, cycling tracks, and more.

3. Tirol

If there’s one place that screams alpine heaven, it’s Tirol. Tyrol is technically a historical region in the Alps of western Austria and Northern Italy, but the village that lies in the area is dubbed Tirol. Lined by deep valleys, snowy peaks, and promises of hot chocolates, Tirol isn’t just one of the most beautiful villages in Austria, but one that can make even a normal day feel romantic. If you’re tired of visiting destinations that just look pretty, you’ll find adventure in Tirol; it’s home to some of the most magnificent skiing slopes, so you can finally wring out that adrenaline. Oh, and if you’re looking for beautiful Austrian villages, you’ll only ned to explore the region of Tirol, and you’ll find many more just beyond Tirol!

4. St. Wolfgang

Meet one of the most charming and beautiful villages in Austria: St. Wolfgang. This cosy village lies east of Salzburg, right by the shore of Lake Wolfgangsee. This alone makes it one of the most beautiful Austrian villages, but wait till you stroll its historical streets, full of promise and nostalgia. The cafes are a popular destination for tourists, who can’t resist traditional Austrian delights. You’ll also find that St. Wolfgang is much more than just a pretty face; it’s home to a historic cog railway that takes you all the way up to the summit of Schafberg Mountain. If you plan your trip carefully, you can even enjoy a couple of fun traditional events that St. Wolfgang holds yearly; the Michaelmas Fair is particularly famous among tourists. You can also visit the Advent Market to get an insight into just how fun St. Wolfgang is!

5. Saint Gilgen

It seems like beautiful Austrian villages are truly saints. Saint Gilgen is one of the most romantic destinations you’ll find in the country. It all begins with the magical lake views, against the dramatic mountains that paint a prettier picture than you could imagine. Next, come the alluring streets and romantic alleyways, perfect for a late-night stroll with your significant other. It’s also brimming with Austrian tradition; just head to the village center and you’ll meet many wonderful people, eager to introduce you to their culture. Fun fact: Saint Gilgen is also the birthplace of Mozart’s mother, so we could owe it to all those serenades. There’s a lot to do here; ride the Zwölferhorn Cable Car, visit the Mozart House Museum, and swim in Lake Fusci.

6. Heiligenblut

We’ve discussed many beautiful villages in Austria, but if there’s one destination that truly encompasses the beauty of the Alps, it has to be Heligenblut. You might think we’re bluffing, but Heiligenblut is home to the highest mountains in Austria; this alone sets it apart from other beautiful Austrian villages! The most popular activity in Heiligenblut is driving along the scenic Grossglockner High Alpine Road, and it’s one that’s definitely worth every minute. The Hiegenblut Church, known for its glamorous Gothic architecture, pulls tourists from all over Austria, so don’t forget to visit. The trails and slopes of Hohe Tauern National Park are a fun visit for every thrill seeker.

7. Melk

Lastly, we’re topping off our list of beautiful villages in Austria, so take a step into heaven by visiting Melk. Melk isn’t just one of the most beautiful Austrian villages; it’s also considered a spiritual destination, since it holds several ancient destinations, making every history buff squeal in delight. Melk is just a stone’s throw from Vienna, so you can even make a day trip out of this place. But we definitely recommend spending a few nights in Melk, since you’ll be too enthralled to even want to go home. Explore Austrian history by visiting the Melk Abbey, with its libraries still speaking ancient lore. Oh, and you just can’t miss the river cruises!
