If you’re planning a trip to this iconic retreat, rest assured that this region has something to offer every type of traveler. Whether you’re on a strict budget or you’re looking to splurge, you’ll find a way to treat yourself when you visit the French Riviera. Here are our 10 best places to visit on the French Riviera.

1. Juan-les-Pins

A prime example of the historical glitz and glamor of the French Riviera, Juan-les-Pins was once known for the lavish parties held by author F. Scott Fitzgerald which may have inspired his novel, The Great Gatsby. Today, Juan-les-Pins is still the place to go for nightlife and partying, and is considered to be one of the most modernized destinations in the region.

2. Antibes

Antibes is Juan-les-Pins’ more down-to-earth sibling, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy the easy-going ambiance. It’s certainly one of the best places to visit on the French Riviera. You’ll be able to explore the historic old town area and see the stunning view of the red tile roofs contrasting against the bright blue waters of the Mediterranean. Spend the rest of your time in this quaint medieval town enjoying the warm sandy beaches, visiting the Picasso Museum, or hiking along the impressive coastline.

3. Saint-Tropez

Name-dropped in songs by artists like Lana del Rey and Post Malone, Saint-Tropez has cemented its identity as an iconic and glamorous party destination. It was once a fishing village and later a military stronghold, but now it’s known for its luxe lifestyle and celebrity visitors as well as its beaches and clubs. Many of the most popular clubs are expensive and hard to get into, but there are just as many smaller bars and pubs that host parties every day of the week.

4. Menton

A smaller yet equally worthy destination in the French Riviera is the charming commune of Menton. Defined by a landscape covered in yellow and red-toned buildings that contrasts beautifully with the sapphire-blue sea, Menton feels like a postcard come to life. While you’re visiting, you’ll notice an abundance of lemons and lemon-based products around every corner. Menton is famous for this citrus fruit, and if you visit towards the end of February, you may be able to visit the town’s famous lemon festival, Fête du Citron.

5. Nice

Like Saint-Tropez, Nice is another iconic destination on the French Riviera that you may have heard of before. It’s a quintessential south of France retreat, and a great example of the beauty and the glamor of the French Riviera. Take a walk on the Promenade des Anglais when you visit – this seaside walk borders the Mediterranean and offers unparalleled views.

6. Cannes

Cannes is synonymous with the annual film festival, and you’ll find your visit to this charming port on the French Riviera filled with French culture and charm. Although visiting during the Cannes Film Festival is exciting, and you may spot a celebrity or two, there’s so much more to do in Cannes than that.

Check out the Marché Forville, a covered indoor market where you can purchase produce, baked goods, and olive oil. If you visit on a Saturday or Sunday, you’ll be able to enjoy live music while you shop. Explore historic sites like the Musée de la Castre, a medieval fortress that is now a museum, or the Église Notre-Dame-de-l’Espérance, a 16th century gothic church. Cannes also boasts a thriving culinary scene, so be sure to sample some bouillabaisse, ratatouille, or pistou soup when you’re there.

7. Villefranche-sur-Mer

If you are looking for the best places to visit on the French Riviera and searching for a laid-back Mediterranean vacation, check out Villefranche-sur-Mer. It’s close to many other larger and busier locales such as Monaco and Nice, but is bursting with small town charm. There are many towns along the French Riviera that display a heavy Italian influence, and Villefranche-sur-Mer is a great example of this due to the burnt orange architecture, the small and steep roads and walkways, and the types of cuisine you can often find on menus in this charming destination.

8. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is a magnificent palace with a view of the Mediterranean that is situated between Nice and Monaco. It is surrounded by nine themed gardens, including the French garden, Spanish garden, Florentine garden, stone garden, Japanese garden, exotic garden, Provençal garden, and rose garden. a request to travel!

The Villa was originally built by Beatrice de Rothschild starting in 1907, and was a beloved retreat for this member of the famous Rothschild family. Her husband was also a prominent banker, Baron Maurice de Ephrussi, and together they filled this rose-colored mansion with antiques, works of art, and rare porcelain. She donated the property to the Académie des Beaux-Arts society, and it later opened to the public. You can visit today to see some of her cherished collection.

9. Grasse

If you’re a perfume enthusiast, you may have heard of Grasse. But outside of these circles, this beautiful town is often overlooked. Many fragrances that originate in Grasse are jasmine-based, but the perfume-makers who study and work here are trained to recognize as many as 2,000 scents! Shop for your new signature scent in the town’s many perfumeries, or create your own at one of the many classes and workshops available here such as Galimard’s Studio des Fragrances, which was specifically designed to introduce the general public to the previously heavily guarded secrets of perfume making.

10. Monaco

The sovereign city-state of Monaco may not be a part of France, but it is absolutely a part of the French Riviera. Famous for car races, opulent casinos, and luxury, Monaco is a truly unique destination. Make sure you stop by the famous Monte Carlo Casino, which has been open for over a century. You’ll feel like you’re stepping into a James Bond film when you enter, whether it’s to play cards or simply enjoy the sights. Either way, make sure you dress appropriately as after 8:00 PM, jackets are required.
