While you’re mesmerized by Bari’s maze-like old town, ancient basilica, and a plate of orecchiette, take some time to take a short vacation from this dreamy location. While it’s certainly impossible to think of places lovelier than Bari, once you take a few day trips, you’ll appreciate the city more. 1. Day Trip from Bari to Polignano a Mare

A short glance at Polignano a Mare will make you realize why we’re asking you to take a day trip from Bari by train. Polignano a Mare is an enthralling destination boasting bright cerulean shores and white-pebbled beaches, something you’d expect from a Bob Ross painting. Polignano a Mare is just a few miles from Bari, so you can hop on the Trenitalia regional train from Bari Centrale to reach there. This day trip from Bari by train will take you roughly 35-40 minutes, but when you get to Polignano a Mare, hit up Lama Monachile and get your tan on. If you’re feeling a bit daring, Ponte de Lapilli is the perfect spot to get cozy, while San Vito Abbey brings you the ideal mix of architecture and nature.
2. Day Trip from Bari to Alberobello

Among the few fantastic day trips from Bari by train, one that you’ll love the most is Alberobello. Although this town might look a bit mundane from the outside, you’ll realize how blissful and fun it is once you step into its wonderful abode. You’ll have to catch a Bari Centrale Trenitalia train to Putignano and then transfer to another train; the trip usually takes about one and a half hours to two, but it’s worth the wait. Alberobello is best known for its unique trullo buildings, but you’ll find its history equally fascinating. Territory Museum, Presepe di Luce, and Cantina Museo Albea are a hit with most tourists, but if you’re going with kids, head to Acqua Splash.
3. Day Trip from Bari to Monopoli

A serene coastal town lying right over the Adriatic Sea, Monopoli is a charming destination for everyone, even those taking day trips from Bari by train. The Baroque Monopoli Cathedral is one of the most popular destinations at Monopoli, so don’t miss it. Walk through the old town, explore the frescoed Palmeiri Palace dating back to the 1700s, and if you’ve got time, head to the beach to grab a couple of mocktails and relax. Taking a day trip from Bari by train to Monopoli is easy because you only need to catch the Trenitalia regional train from Bari Centrale, which will take about 35-40 minutes.
4. Day Trip from Bari to Matera

Catch the Bari Centrale to Ferrandina-Pomarico-Miglionico, then a bus to Matera, which should take anywhere between an hour and a half to two. You could also take the Bari Centrale to a different station, but it’s quicker this way. Matera is a neighboring city that comes alive at night; most tourists love strolling the streets and feasting on fresh Italian delicacies. But if you’d instead take a short day trip from Bari by train, we suggest hitting up all of Matera’s historical destinations like Casa Noha, Chiesa di San Pietro, and Palomboro Lungo. Nature lovers will also like Murgia Materana Regional Park.
5. Day Trip from Bari to Trani

A 25-30-minute ride on the Trenitalia regional train from Bari Centrale will have you in Trani, a seaport in Apulia, roughly 40 kilometers from Bari. Trani isn’t your ordinary Italian destination; while most Italian cities are considerably energetic, Trani brings a relaxing charm you wouldn’t want to miss, especially if you’re taking a short day trip from Bari by train to relax. Trani’s serene coast, exemplary Cathedral, and impossibly beautiful beach make it a fine enough destination, but even hanging out at Villa Comunale will make you feel like you’ve won the lottery.
6. Day Trip from Bari to Lecce

Next, we have Lecce, a fascinating city in Apulia lined with baroque buildings and lovely weather year-round. A day trip from Bari by train to Lecce would require a short hop on the Trenitalia regional train from Bari Centrale, which takes between an hour and 20 minutes to 40 minutes. But thankfully, Lecce becomes a fantastic destination, especially if you’re an art and history buff. From tracing the fine lines of architecture in Basilica di Santa Croce to enjoying a pleasant evening at Anfiteatro Romano di Lecce and even feigning royalty at the Castle of Charles V, you’ll find this Italian city pretty amorous.
7. Day Trip from Bari to Ostuni

If we’re talking amorous and amazing day trips from Bari by train, how could we miss out on Ostuni, a true master of seduction? Ostuni’s whitewashed stone buildings, charming archways, romantic streets, and unique architecture make this Apulian Italian city a hotspot for lovers, but there’s a lot where that charm comes from. Ostuni isn’t only for taking romantic strolls down the streets; families can enjoy adventurous activities at Ostuni Adventure Park and learn more about the city’s history at the Museum of Preclassic Civilizations of Southern Murgia. Of course, you’ll only need to catch the Trenitalia regional train from Bari Centrale, which takes about 45 minutes. It’s well worth the destination!
