Our Travel Story & Testimonials

Our family adventure in Italy begins with a flight from Chicago to Venice (Via Dublin)

Water taxis, a unique and fun experience, took us directly from the airport to our hotel in Venice. After all was said and done, Venice ended up being one of our favorites, with the meandering canals, gondolas, architecturally appealing bridges, narrow cobblestone alley ways, open cafes, restaurants, historical cathedrals, piazzas and plenty of shopping for wife and daughters. A Gondola ride was a peaceful way for our family to wind down on this particular day.

High Speed trains were an unforeseen pleasantry, connecting us with our major destinations. The trains were clean, comfortable and easy to use. It was refreshing unloading the responsibility of driving to the train engineers so that we could fully enjoy watching the scenery unfold through the large windows or snooze, if need be!

Florence, rich in history, architecture and the epicenter for the renaissance was used as our hub for venturing to other points of interest:

  • Michelangelo’s David, a world famous sculpture and the story behind it, captivated our entire family. A highly knowledgeable private tour guide added helpful commentary.
  • Tuscany, a refreshing peak into the rural side of Italy, offered wine tasting in Chianti, It was also in this region where we explored the hill crested cities of Sienna and San Gimignano
  • One of the unexpected highlights for our family was the gelato and pizza making class. The venue, built high up on a hill overlooked parts of Florence and the green valley below. The window filled class room brought the beautiful wooded setting in doors. In addition to the excellent instruction and awesome cuisine, lifelong friendships were made with folks from all over the world, an unexpected joy!
  • Cinque Terre, composed of five colorful, quaint villages clinging to the side of cliffs overlooking the extraordinary coast of the Mediterranean. It was in Monterroso, where father and daughters experienced swimming in the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean together for the first time– meaningful and exhilarating, all at the same time

From Florence we moved unto Rome, an amazing display of history. The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps (And where we did laundry) were just a few of the highlights. We were in awe being in the presence of The Colosseum, nearly 2000 years old dating back almost to the time of Christ. It’s hard to fathom that these buildings were in existence so long, long ago and we had the opportunity to see and experience them first hand!

From Rome, we ventured to Naples and secured a passenger ferry to the picturesque Island of Capri. We took the funicular-best described as a cable car on the ground-brought us to the top of a hill with breathtaking scenery.

We enjoyed a private boat ride the next day with Captain Pablo navigating our course around the island. We swam, snorkeled and soaked up the warm sun shine for the three hour tour. We toured the lush Gardens of Augustus overlooking the beautiful coastline and caught an early evening Ferry ride to our final destination, Sorrento.

Sorrento, was a relaxing way to wind down our trip with a beautiful hotel and pool perched high above the Mediterranean sea with the volcano, Mount Vesuvius, serving as a stunning backdrop.

We took a tour entitled Farm and Food offering insight into Olive and lemon farming. We finished our evening on the farm with a delightful home cooked meal, highlighting those products raised on the farm. Our final full day was capped by taking a private tour along the spectacular Amalfi Coast. We soaked in some of the most beautiful coastline in the entire world. What a wonderful exclamation point for our family adventure in Italy!

We’re especially grateful to Kate and her team at MultiCityTrips for masterfully orchestrating our memorable trip. They took the stress off our shoulders by helping us to incorporate in our itinerary, those things that were most important to us, maintained a level of quality/price we were seeking and dealt with all logistics to make for a seamless experience. The little details made a difference.

Each and every evening we appreciated receiving a summarized version (via Whatsapp) highlighting our schedule for the next day and any important reminders. The special app MultiCityTrips equipped us with, made it easy to navigate our way around the cities. At no point did we feel like we were left by ourselves. We definitely had a strong sense of being taking care of at every turn in our trip.
